Since I read this book after reading The One, it really didn’t mean much to me. This book contained the full list of the Selection girls as well as The One sneak peak. It’s just boring and uninteresting to me. I initially didn’t like Aspen, after reading this, I still don’t. This novella talks about his life as one of the Royal Guards. Talks about Aspen, who is America’s first lover. It was also exciting to see Maxon’s first impressions of the girls and how he handled the situation on their first meeting. We find out more about his imperfections and his relationship with his sweet mother, horrible father and his only friend, Daphne.

I think this shows an interesting and adorable side to him. We get a glimpse of his life before the Selection happened. This book contains two short stories about Prince Maxon and Aspen. However, my need to be perfectly thorough and organized got the best of me, so here we go. I read this book ages ago but was reluctant to write a review about it since theres nothing much to say. In The Guard, readers get an inside look at Aspen’s life within the palace walls-and the truth about a guard’s world that America will never know.
